Have you heard of 3D printing yet? If not, you will hear more about it in the news soon.
This particular story caught my attention. Teenage Engineering, who makes nice synthesizers, is going to let people print their own replacement knobs and parts by making CAD files available for 3D printing purposes.
I like this idea. As an electronic musician myself, I’ve had many machines that lost their knobs or sliders or other parts. And it’s always very inconvenient to replace them unless you want to spend the time hunting them down.
In the future, you will be able to print this stuff off and replace it yourself. That is, if the original manufacturers allow it. I think they will, since this sort of approach to replacement parts could really cut down on overhead expenses for manufacturers.
